Kisii County, Kenya – In a recent operation, police arrested four Burundian nationals and one Kenyan, uncovering a significant cache of stolen mobile phones. The suspects were apprehended in Nyakongo Estate on Thursday, sparking a detailed investigation into their activities.
The arrested individuals include Birori Benard, Biziman Alain, Kubwiman Fideli, and Hakizimana Janviel from Burundi, along with Enock Mokaya, a Kenyan national.
They were found with 151 mobile phones suspected to be stolen, comprising 60 M-Kopa phones and 91 regular phones. These devices are believed to have been stolen from various individuals.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has been actively pursuing this case, aiming to understand the extent of the theft and the network involved.
Initial reports suggest that the suspects planned to smuggle these phones to neighboring countries, potentially to resell them.
The arrest came as a result of vigilant police work and community cooperation. Residents in Nyakongo Estate noticed suspicious activities and reported them to the authorities, leading to the swift action that resulted in the arrests.
