A woman in Eldoret, Kenya, has been given a severe punishment after a tragic incident that ended in her husband's death.

Winnie Wangari, aged 37, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for stabbing her husband, Wycliffe Muriithi Miriti, to death.

The heartbreaking event occurred on August 31, 2022, following a night of revelry.

Winnie Wangari and her husband returned home after a late-night drinking session. However, what started as a night of celebration turned into a nightmare.

Upon returning home, an altercation broke out between the couple, escalating to a violent confrontation.

Winnie Wangari, in a fit of rage, stabbed her husband five times in the chest. The brutal attack proved fatal, leading to the untimely death of Wycliffe Muriithi Miriti.

In a court ruling by Justice Reuben Nyakundi of the Eldoret High Court, Winnie Wangari was found guilty of murder.

Despite her plea for leniency, citing her nine-year-old daughter and her status as a first-time offender, the court emphasized the gravity of her actions.

Justice Nyakundi noted that the crime committed by Winnie Wangari warranted punishment, highlighting her lack of remorse and failure to seek forgiveness from the deceased's family.

The court dismissed her plea for a non-custodial sentence, ordering her to serve 25 years in prison.

The judge stressed the importance of peaceful conflict resolution within couples, urging against resorting to violence or weapons in family disputes.

He emphasized that murder is a grave act that robs a person of their life and all that is special about them.

Neighbors revealed that the couple had a history of quarrels, indicating underlying tensions in their relationship.

Despite Winnie Wangari's attempt to seek help by rushing her husband to the hospital upon realizing the severity of his condition, it was too late.
