Heartbreaking: 2 Kapsabet Twin Brothers Drown In A Sewer Manhole They Were Hired To Unblock, Dies

The tragedy unfolded on a Monday afternoon in Chepnyango village, near Kamobo along the Kapsabet-Chavakali highway.

The brothers were hired by a landowner to unblock a sewerage system that lay 5 meters underground in Kamobo estate.

Without proper protective equipment, they bravely descended into the manhole where raw sewage had been causing problems for the local community.

The situation quickly turned fatal as Davis, the elder brother, succumbed to the lack of oxygen and suffocation inside the confined space. Tragically, Weldon, attempting to rescue his brother, also met the same fate just minutes later.

Authorities, including Nandi county police commander Dickens Njogu, confirmed the incident, emphasizing the suspected cause of death as suffocation due to the hazardous conditions inside the manhole.

However, further investigations and autopsies are expected to provide more clarity on the exact circumstances.

Witnesses near the scene recounted the harrowing moments, describing the unbearable smell and the swift, silent tragedy that unfolded as the brothers attempted their hazardous task.

Despite efforts by emergency services, including Kapsabet fire engines and ambulances, the rescue came too late, and the brothers' bodies were retrieved from the site.

The Sang family and the entire Chepnyango community are now in mourning as they await answers and justice for the tragic loss of Davis and Weldon Sang.

The incident has raised concerns about safety standards in such work environments, highlighting the critical need for proper protective measures and training for those involved in similar tasks.
