DCI Nab 4 Police Officers, 2 Civilians For Allegedly Robbing An Accountant Ksh 2.2 Million at Gunpoint; Ksh 473K Recovered In Bush

The suspects were believed to have trailed the accountant from a bank in Utawala before breaking into his car and stealing the money.

A joint team of investigators from DCI Nairobi region and Kayole sub-county made the arrests at the Kasarani Police Station public parking yard. They recovered KSh 473,000 believed to be part of the stolen amount from the suspects.

Earlier, the accountant withdrew an amount exceeding KSh 2.2 million, intended for paying casual workers at Rophine International School.

Unbeknownst to him, criminals had been tracking him from the bank. After parking his car outside the school and taking some cash from the withdrawn sum, he found the car broken into minutes later, with the millions missing.

DCI officers obtained actionable intelligence and pursued a suspect identified from CCTV analysis in Utawala. Upon arrival, they learned the suspect had been picked up by unknown individuals in a Subaru car.

Further intelligence led them to the Kasarani station, where the suspects were ambushed in a police vehicle. The arrested officers were neither on official duty nor under the instructions of the DCI sub-county head.

During the search, KSh 350,000 was found in the car, and an additional KSh 123,000 was retrieved from the suspects' pockets.

Two motor vehicles belonging to the suspects were also detained for further investigation. All suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
